At Home – Shadow Grass Park

Boulder Creek Builders at Shadow Grass Park:  These new homes showcase new ideas

One of life’s great pleasures is to move into a beautiful new home, especially when it’s filled with exciting innovations that enhance the way you live. At Shadow Grass Park in Longmont, Boulder Creek Builders has opened its own sales office and model homes and rolled out a new series of designs for savvy homebuyers. Boulder Creek’s clever innovations spotlight the difference between new homes built the way people want to live today, in 2011, and other so-called new homes wearing the same old designs you’ve seen for decades.

“As a leader in the homebuilding industry, Boulder Creek welcomes the chance to be innovative in designing and building new homes,” says Sales and Marketing Manager Paul Gortzig, “With one of our company owners being an architect, we have consulted with an outside group of architects to be sure our plans answer the needs of our homebuyers at Shadow Grass Park. And we have actively sought fresh ideas from the home-buying public
to challenge traditional thinking in home designs. We ask you not to settle for old, tired designs being sold as ‘new.’”

At Shadow Grass Park, Boulder Creek has introduced some new concepts based on how people aspire to live today. The homes built by Boulder Creek showcase new designs and new engineering, with a focus on energy-efficient Green building technology and optimum comfort and convenience.

Main-floor living.

All of Boulder Creek’s homes at Shadow Grass Park are ranch-style, with main-floor master suite, laundry and study. Two of the floor plans have zero-step access into the home, and two other plans offer a fully finished lower level. The Longmont Senior Advisory Council gave Boulder Creek Builders valuable input into the design of these ranch-style patio homes. The builder has a pleasant surprise for homeowners looking for
extra storage. The homes are built with an oversized garage that is more than ample for two cars. And voila! A staircase at the end of the garage leads to a versatile 200-square-foot room, with a window and abundant space for storage. So people can downsize, move into these ranch homes and have all main-floor living, without compromising storage.

“Our homes in this community are exceeding Energy Star’s Top (5 Star) rating,” says Boulder Creek Community Manager Karen Sanders. “For our homeowners, this means that their home is 20 to 30 percent more efficient than most new homes being built today and, most likely, vastly more efficient than the home they are moving out of. This translates into lower monthly electric and gas bills.”

The “behind-the-walls quality” is really important in these homes: 2×6 wall construction means higher insulation levels, advanced framing techniques produce a sturdier building with less air penetration, concrete-based siding creates a durable exterior and provides a quieter interior, and high-quality low-VOC paint is good for the indoor air quality.

“We build what’s good for the environment and good for our buyer,” Sanders says. New Energy-Star-rated furnaces, water heaters and appliances help the home run most efficiently. The results are a more comfortable interior environment with better air quality and savings on monthly utility bills. The whole focus is to build an energy-efficient home. “Our homeowners enjoy a low-maintenance lifestyle; front-lawn care and snow removal are part of living in this community. And we have some great home sites to choose from.”

Right-sized design.

Next, there’s right-sized design. The homes are designed for maximum use of all their square footage, with no extra hallways or wasted spaces. “Right Sized was the logical solution for Shadow Grass Park, “says Boulder Creek Principal David Sinkey. “After consulting with the Senior Advisory Council, we developed a myriad of thoughtful design concepts for residents of every age, from standard slab on grade foundations with zero-step garage entries to wider hallways and doorways. With front-yard maintenance provided for our homeowners, it’s a lock-and-leave lifestyle that appeals to a wide variety of residents.”

When you enter a new right-sized home, you see immediately how it makes perfect sense. Everything a homeowner needs is right there on the main floor, from the master suite to the laundry and even a home office. The main floor centerpiece is a spacious, light-filled Great Room, connecting the large, efficient kitchen to the living areas. “Another thing I love about these homes is all the luxurious interior trim and alder cabinets,” Sanders says. Right-sized ranch-style homes come in a variety of floor plans to suit each homeowner’s needs. Those looking for additional bedrooms for visitors or a rec room for grandchildren will find what they need by adding a finished lower level. Boulder Creek is known for pioneering and perfecting the amenities and technologies of lower-level living.

Convenient location.

The Shadow Grass Park community is very well located with major retail businesses nearby (two grocery stores, two banks, restaurants and a number of small stores), adjacent green belt trail system, Jim Hamm Pond Nature Area, Ute Creek Golf Course and a local park with a dog park, basketball court, skate park, playground and water park. The community also has wonderful connectivity to Old Town Longmont (only minutes away) and to I-25 to Denver and Fort Collins, Highway 66 to Lyons and Estes Park, and Highway 119 to Boulder.

At Home – Kingsbridge satisfies your desire for active, easy living.

In its very first year, Kingsbridge Townhomes in Longmont has achieved some coveted milestones. According to Metrostudy, which provides market information to the housing industry, in 2010 Kingsbridge ranked fourth in sales in the Front Range territory that stretches from Longmont to Castle Rock. With 25 sales for the year, Kingsbridge sold just three fewer than the leader, which had 28 townhome sales in the Front Range.
And, in Boulder County, Kingsbridge captured first place in townhome building permits and sales.

“These are amazing numbers,” says Paul Gortzig, sales and marketing manager of Boulder Creek Life and Home, builder of the Kingsbridge Townhomes. “Our buyers choose Kingsbridge as their place to live because of the wonderful location, superior construction practices and attractiveness of the architecture. We are very excited for 2011 as we continue to lead the region with great values and low-maintenance, energy-efficient living.”

Location is first

Rachael Roberts moved from Littleton to her Kingsbridge townhome in mid-December. She was starting a new job as an operating-room nurse at Boulder Community Hospital and needed to settle in quickly. “I have to live within 30 minutes of the hospital because I am on call,” she says. “Convenience is one of the reasons I picked Kingsbridge; I am only about 20 minutes away from work. I just go across the Diagonal Highway.”

The move went smoothly. “Brent Patterson and Bill Besher in the sales office and Boulder Creek Builders made everything quick and easy for me. I even used the mortgage lender they recommended.”
Roberts knew what she wanted. “My four reasons for choosing Kingsbridge were first, location; second, price; third, they’re brand new; and fourth, the great designs. You pay your monthly HOA fee, and they take care of the exterior. I am not an outside, yard- work person. I never know when I’m going to get a call to go to work, and here I don’t have to shovel snow.”

She is pleased with her energy savings, too. “I think it’s good that the homes here are built green and energy efficient. I like the idea of not depleting the environment. My current heating bill is only about a third of what I paid when I lived in Denver, in a place half the size of this place.”

For recreation, Roberts spends time outdoors with her poodle, Sailor, and newly adopted Koa, a retired greyhound. “I like that it’s not completely built-up here – there’s countryside less than a mile away. I can take a five-mile walk with the dogs. Vic’s coffee shop is a mile up the road, and Sailor and I love to sit outside.”

Built for the way you live

With four floor plans to choose from, Roberts selected a Milan model, a home built on the end of the building. “The townhomes are brand new and very nice. I got everything on my wish list – a two-car garage, two-bedroom home, 1,500 square feet, not too small, not too huge. The garage is oversized, and I have a truck, an oversized vehicle. I have a storage room in the front of the garage, with an additional 340 square feet. My home was a really good value. If you buy early enough in the building process, you can choose everything you want.”

The townhomes range in size from 1,400 to 1,793 square feet, each with three bathrooms and either two or three bedrooms, and a private attached two-car garage. The architecture is stylish and imposing, with attractive stonework and columns, and a courtyard concept.

Among the many included features are maintained landscaping throughout the community, 8-foot to 11-foot ceilings on the main floor, Tharp oak hardwood cabinets, and low VOC paints for healthier indoor air.

“Homebuyers get excited about the quality of the homes, especially compared to other new construction in the area,” says Bill Besher of the sales team. “Their choices in West Longmont are often limited to older, less efficient homes with no opportunities for personalization. These are not your typical townhomes. People need to come inside and take a look at the single-family living that’s available in these high-efficiency homes. I hear it all the time, ‘Wow, I didn’t expect all this in here.’”

Kingsbridge is set in a quiet area, within a mile of shopping and restaurants, with amazing recreational opportunities nearby – trails, hiking, skiing and tourist activities. Besides all that Longmont has to offer, residents love the proximity to Boulder, whether for work or leisure.

“Business is very good,” says Brent Patterson of the sales team. “People love the low-maintenance lifestyle, the freedom from maintaining a house, the time it frees up in their schedule to pursue their own activities and desires.”

Quality-built, green and efficient

Kingsbridge townhomes are constructed to Built Green standards and qualify as Energy Star® homes. Each home boasts dozens of green features, such as an Advanced Insulation Package that goes beyond the building code to provide a more comfortable home and results in lower energy costs; and certified composite wood trim and decking materials to reduce the use of natural materials. Homeowners never cringe when their electric bill arrives. In fact, they look forward to seeing how much they saved on energy costs.

The 12 Days of Boulder Creek

We’ll admit it…even though the weather has been warm, we can’t help but get into the holiday spirit!  As the year winds to its conclusion and we prepare to celebrate Christmas and New Year’s, we can’t help but reflect on the year that’s been.

Without further ado, here are 12 reasons we’re grateful this year:

  1. This year we were grateful to contribute to a handful of well-deserving local charities, including Make a Wish, EFAA, Byrne Urban Scholars, The Cancer League of Colorado, Home Builders Foundation of Metro Denver, and local food banks.
  2. We’re in great company, with membership in the Erie, Boulder, Superior and Louisville Chambers as well as the Colorado Home Builders Association and National Home Builders Association.
  3. We were proud to continue with our We ♥ Realtors initiative and to sponsor the Boulder County Real Estate Expo and other informative events to help realtors build their businesses and sell new homes.
  4. We were able to transition to a new headquarters in downtown Louisville, purchasing and renovating the building we now occupy.
  5. We were privileged to meet homeowners who value a lifestyle that’s second to none!  Nothing compares to seeing dreams turn into real homes built with green savvy and serving as the cornerstone of Colorado communities.
  6. Speaking of Colorado communities, we had the privilege of launching neighborhoods at Kingsbridge Townhomes in South Longmont, taking on a select offering at Creekside, stepping up our involvement at Shadow Grass Park, and planning for new developments that bear Boulder Creek’s signature lifestyle touch.
  7. We’ll admit…we love community recognition, from national news coverage of Boulder Creek’s distinctive communities to a 40 under 40 award for principal David Sinkey.
  8. Our local partnerships and relationships make us grateful.  We couldn’t offer our unique mix of life and home without being firmly rooted in the community.
  9. Our exemplary staff is reason enough to be grateful!  With their help, we run smoothly and give homebuyers the exceptional homebuying experience they expect and deserve.
  10. Don’t forget about fun…we’re grateful for our participation in Colorado Music Festival and Rocky Mountain Center for Musical Arts in 2010!
  11. We’re grateful for growing awareness of the green building techniques that are an integral part of our philosophy and our business.
  12. Finally, we’re grateful for Colorado…where life comes first and home is second to none…where we are privileged to serve an extraordinary community.

Happy New Year!

At Home – Village at Creekside

“You don’t have to buy a used home. Buy a new home that reflects your style.”

Homebuyers have a rare opportunity to build a new home in a well-established, upscale South Longmont community. Six choice home sites are newly available at Village at Creekside, three of them bordering picturesque Left Hand Creek.

The sites are being developed by Boulder Creek Life and Home, known for high-quality construction and commitment to green building. Stylish ranch homes with finished lower levels are planned for the six sites. The main floor highlights a spacious, light-filled Great Room connecting the kitchen to the living areas. Those looking for additional bedrooms for visitors or a recreation room for grandchildren will find just what they need in the finished lower level.

Location, location, location

“Village at Creekside is a well-located little community,” says David Sinkey, a principal of Boulder Creek Life and Home. “This is a limited opportunity for people to acquire our sites, three of which back up to Left Hand Creek and will be in high demand. They connect you to the extensive Longmont trail system. We’re already having conversations with many interested parties wanting to stay in this great community. They’re excited about a new home that is designed around the way they live today.”

The six sites are nestled in a circling drive, in the heart of the neighborhood. Residents experience a quiet neighborhood setting while enjoying the close proximity of local shopping and quick access to Boulder and major transit thoroughfares.

“We’re close to starting our first home,” says Paul Gortzig sales manager. “One of the advantages of buying here is that you have the opportunity to invest in a brand-new, well-built, green home in an established community that is well respected. The location is great in south-central Longmont, near restaurants and Main Street, minutes from Twin Peaks Mall.”

Easy ranch-style living

Buyers choose from three floor plans. With all of them, you step inside to open Great Room living, with vaulted ceilings, a  dream kitchen, a well-appointed master suite with a separate shower and soaking tub and walk-in closet, convenient laundry room, and decks with outdoor living space. Also on the main floor is an office/study that can be used as a bedroom, and a bath.

The lower level combines two bedrooms, a rec room and bath. This nicely separates living space and entertaining. With room to invite 50 to 60 people, there’s still a sense of intimate space; you can live on the first floor and use the lower level for company, entertainment and hobbies.

Prices start from the mid-$300,000s. Early buyers will get to choose their floor plan and designer finishes to personalize their home. From Modern Contemporary to Country Craftsman, Boulder Creek’s professional design studio helps buyers select colors and materials to create their ideal space.

“Boulder Creek Life and Home builds lifestyle communities, and we found a need in this community for ranch-style living,” says Gortzig. “Our ranch-style homes include a finished lower level to make it perfect. We’re seeing more and more couples into their careers who find that the ranch makes sense for them, as well as empty nesters who want to stay in the neighborhood and until now, did not have an opportunity to buy new with spacious ranch-style living.. People love our Great Room designs and open floor plans. You don’t have to buy a used home. Buy a new home that reflects your style.”

Quality-built, green, efficient

In Boulder Creek Life and Home’s communities, home owners receive a higher standard of building: 2×6 wall construction to allow higher insulation levels; advanced framing techniques to produce sturdier buildings with less outside air penetration; concrete-based siding to create a durable exterior and provide a quieter interior; and Energy Star Rated furnaces, water heaters and appliances to help the home run most efficiently. These efforts are designed to produce a more comfortable interior living environment with better air quality, and to save on utility bills.

Boulder Creek Life and Home Boulder Creek Life and Home has pioneered residential development that meets the demands and needs of the ‘active lifestyle’ homeowner – including professionals, empty nesters, semi-retired and post-children “Baby Boomers.” It designs and builds low-maintenance, single-family and multi-family residential products to accommodate people’s desire for active, easy lives.

At Home — Right-sized design meets smart building technology at Shadow Grass Park

What happens when right-sized design meets smart building technology? Homebuyers get a home designed around how they want to live today. Main floor living, energy efficiency and spaces that are thoughtfully proportioned are just a few of the exciting results.

Boulder Creek Builders has just released a newly designed series of homes dubbed the “Right Size” series. These ranch style patio homes were designed with valuable input from the Longmont Senior Advisory Council.

“For Boulder Creek, Right Sized was the logical solution for Shadow Grass Park” says Principal David Sinkey. “After consulting with the Longmont Senior Advisory Council, we developed a myriad of thoughtful design concepts for residents of every age, from standard slab on grade foundations with zero step garage entries to wider hallways and doorways. With front-yard maintenance, it’s a lock-and-leave lifestyle that appeals to a wide variety of residents…the people who ultimately give Shadow Grass Park its special charm.”

When you enter a new Right Sized home, prepare for a big surprise. Each home features convenience with everything a homeowner needs right there on the mainfloor; from the master suite to the laundry and even a home office. The main floor highlights a spacious light filled Great Room connecting the kitchen to the living areas.

“How often do you have people over and everyone gathers in the kitchen? We thought, our designs should provide those spaces which reflect the way we live today, ”states Paul Gortzig, sales manager for Boulder Creek.

Right Sized ranch style homes come in a variety of sizes dependent on a homebuyer’s particular needs. Those looking for additional bedrooms for visitors or a rec room for grandchildren will find what they need by adding a finished lower level.

Boulder Creek gives homebuyers the opportunity to express their personal tastes by choosing interior finishes of their homes. From modern contemporary to country craftsmen, Boulder Creek’s professional design studio helps buyers select colors and materials to turn a house into their home.

Staying true to itself, Boulder Creek has incorporated green building techniques and Energy Star guidelines into its homes. Homebuyers receive a higher standard in building: 2×6 wall construction to allow higher insulation levels; advanced framing techniques to produce sturdier buildings with less outside air penetration; concrete-based siding to create a durable exterior and provide a quieter interior; and new Energy Star Rated furnaces, water heaters and appliances to help the home run most efficiently. All these efforts are designed to produce a more comfortable interior living environment with greater air quality as well as save on monthly utility bills.

Third party inspection companies audit the home during and after construction. These inspections ensure quality of building and incorporation of green building and energy efficiency techniques.

“Once a home is complete,” says David Gregg, principal and architect for Boulder Creek, “we bring in an energy surveyor to evaluate the home’s performance. We are very proud to say our homes test out to exceed the ratings provided for the ‘Energy Star’ designation.”

But main floor living, highly personalized interiors and energy efficiency are just the beginning. Located near wonderful amenities, Boulder Creek at Shadow Grass Park has easy and quick access to shopping, recreation and breathtaking mountain views. Major retail centers are only blocks away and the Jim Hamm Nature Area, Ute Creek Golf Course and Union Reservoir are right next door. When you live at Shadow Grass Park you will have more time to do what you enjoy.

Our Contribution to World Green Building Week

Today marks the last weekday of the first-ever World Green Building Week, a week celebrating the potential and promise of green building in all its glory. So it was more than appropriate that we got word recently that 84% of all waste generated on a home at Blue Vista was recycled.

Why does this statistic matter? Because the more builders can do to keep the environment in mind, the better.

Traditional buildings consume a whopping 40% of the nation’s energy, create nearly 40% of the country’s carbon emissions, and constitute 40% of the waste stream of the entire United States combined every year. In contrast, green buildings can help reduce that impact while delivering homes that are healthy to live in, valuable to invest in, and great for the Earth at large.

Green homes make dollars and sense, and we’re proud to add “green” to our list of the invaluable features that make Boulder Creek communities the perfect mix of life and home. Happy World Green Building Week!

Boulder Creek Welcomes Bill Besher to Kingsbridge Townhomes

The Kingsbridge Townhomes in Longmont aren’t just notable for their location and incomparable amenities…the already-strong sales office has recently been enhanced by veteran sales team member Bill Besher.  We asked Bill for more information about his past in sales and what makes Kingsbridge the perfect intersection of life and home:

Boulder Creek Life and Home:  Bill, tell us about your background in sales.

Bill Besher:  I have been doing sales and sales training for years, both in outside and interior sales.  I found this industry about six years ago and have been selling new homes ever since.  When I helped sell out another project at Boulder Creek Life and Home, I was asked to move on to Kingsbridge…and it’s been a really wonderful project so far.

BC:  So what makes Kingsbridge unique?

BB:  First of all, our buyers are extremely diverse.  The property is a great fit for anyone from a first-time buyer to those who are ready to simplify their lives and be near some great amenities.
BC:  What’s most exciting about the Kingsbridge Townhomes to visitors?

BB:  People get really thrilled about the green building techniques Boulder Creek uses to increase efficiency and reduce waste.  They also get excited about the quality of the homes, especially compared to other new construction in the area.  Their choices in West Longmont are often limited to older, less efficient homes with no opportunities for personalization.  We offer a great alternative, with proximity to Boulder and everything Longmont has to offer.

BC:  Speaking of the area, what amenities are available nearby?

BB:  Kingsbridge Townhomes are located in a quiet area that’s still within a mile of shopping and restaurants.  Even better, there are some amazing recreational opportunities right nearby.  Trails, hiking, tourist activities, skiing…it’s all within reach.

BC:  What’s your favorite feature of the Kingsbridge Townhomes?

BB:  I love the garage storage…what can I say, I’m always looking for a place to store my bike.  In addition, I think that the courtyard concept of the Kingsbridge townhomes has incredible curb appeal.  Think downtown Keystone…a sort of resort style feel with really attractive stonework and columns.

BC:  Do you have a favorite floorplan?

BB:  They all are unique, but I’d say that the Milan is a favorite.  It’s perfect for a family looking to simplify….lots of storage, natural light and a great open feel.

BC:  What do you want the world to know about Kingsbridge Townhomes?

BB:  That’s easy…that they’re not your typical townhome.  I’d encourage those who are interested in the homes to come inside and take a look at the single-family living that’s available in these high-efficiency townhomes.  I hear it all time…”Wow, I didn’t expect all this in here.”

BC:  Any final words on Boulder Creek Life and Home or the Kingsbridge Townhomes?

BC:  Sure.  I truly believe that Boulder Creek Life and Home is building in a fashion that most other builders have abandoned.  That’s what separates us and the Kingsbridge Townhomes from the pack.

Want to see Kingsbridge Townhomes for yourself?  Visit Bill at the sales office at Kingsbridge in west Longmont, 1656 Venice Lane, Longmont, CO 80503.  Learn more about Kingsbridge at http://livekingsbridge.com

It’s Great to be Green

Here’s a statistic guaranteed to perk your ears up:  green building now constitutes nearly 1/3 of new construction in the United States.*

Take a moment to appreciate what that means…to let it really sink in.  33% of new construction built with sustainability in mind.  33% of new construction built with efficient, money-saving components.

Of course, we could be biased. After all, green building techniques are just part of what Boulder Creek Life and Home does.  They’re as critical to our worldview as quality and access to a better life.

People are shocked that we’re able to use earth-friendly building techniques without sacrificing price, quality, or location…but we’re living proof that green can and does work for residential building. For us, it’s just as much about the results as the techniques…

  • lower energy bills
  • more efficient heating and cooling systems
  • improved indoor air quality
  • reduced waste
  • contributions to community sustainability and development

It’s great to see green spreading over our industry and others…great to know that it’s possible for your home to not just house your precious family and your hopes and dreams, but to make a difference as well.
