What Will Life and Home Mean in 2010?
At Boulder Creek Life and Home, we know that home isn’t home without lifestyle…and life isn’t life without home. As we look forward to the new year, what will be the biggest trends in life and home? We venture to make some predictions:
Green: not just a buzzword any more It seems like everyone has been jumping on the environmentally friendly bandwagon, but in 2010 we predict that this trend will gain some staying power. Adopting eco-friendly lifestyle choices like hybrid vehicles, renewable power, and energy-efficiency doesn’t just sound cool…it saves money, which means it fits perfectly into the more financially-conscious decade we’re entering. And maybe we’re biased, but we think our energy-efficient, green building techniques will withstand the test of time.
Kitchen as home So much of the life of a home is in the kitchen, and these cost-conscious times mean the kitchen will be a more important gathering place than ever. Look for increased emphasis on in-kitchen dining and functional, fun kitchens like the ones offered in our patio and townhomes.
Inside/outside We’re lucky enough to live surounded by some of the country’s most beautiful scenery. While interiors become more comfortable than ever, we predict a renewed emphasis on outdoor recreation in 2010. That means hiking, biking, and taking advantage of everything Boulder County has to offer.

The Top 5 Building Trends of 2010: All Eyes on Efficiency – Lowe’s Pro – December 16, 2009
There is no doubt that the U.S. construction industry bottomed out in 2009 but that means it has nowhere to go but up.
Market projections indicate that single-family home construction will rise more than 30 percent next year, with new multi-family housing starts increasing by as much as 16 percent according to the McGraw-Hill 2010 Construction Outlook.
As new homeowners and multi-unit developers choose the materials, appliances, designs and fixtures that will make up their new homes and buildings, expect consumer focus to remain on one key element: Energy efficiency. Any components or materials in the home that save energy—and therefore reduce costs over the long term—are in greater demand than ever before.
Builders and remodelers looking to flourish in 2010, should consider these five building trends in 2010: read more…

Boulder developer buys Kingsbridge development – Longmont Times Call – December 14, 2009
LONGMONT — A Boulder-based homebuilder has purchased the Kingsbridge developmentin southwest Longmont for $1.79 million.
David Sinkey, co-owner of Boulder Creek Life & Home, said his company bought 109 developable lots and three model homes from Capital Pacific Homes, which pulled out of the development because of funding issues.
Boulder Creek will build 109 townhome units on the property, with buildings ranging from two-units to six-units.
The townhomes differ from condominiums, Sinkey said, because the homeowner owns both the townhome and the land it sits on.
The quality of the project and its location is what attracted his company, he said.
Plans are for immediate construction on a three-unit building and then a four-unit building.
“That’ll be pretty much the extent of the building we’ll be doing until we get some contracts,” Sinkey said. “And already the interest has been very strong.” read more…

No commentsNew Year, New Choices at Blue Vista in Longmont
The new year is off to a big start at Blue Vista, the award-winning community in Longmont that offers an innovative mix of duplex, four-plex, row homes, luxury town homes and single-family residences.
By L.L. Charles
November 14-16, 2008
“Blue Vista is surrounded by exceptional schools, recreational facilities and open space, all important to the diverse mix of young families, single professionals and active seniors who call the neighborhood ‘home.’”
“We saw four families choose Blue Vista as their new home address in January,” says Summer Youngs, community sales manager. “We know they like the classic neighborhood feel and location, but they also tell us they really appreciate the incredible prices of these homes. With record-low interest rates and a first-time buyer tax credit, people are deciding that this is an excellent time to buy their new home at Blue Vista.”
The new urban neighborhood features front porches, yards with picket fences and tree-lined streets lined by Victorian, Colonial and Four-Square homes in a pleasing palette of rust reds, sage greens and soft yellows. Located just minutes from highways 287, I-25 and the Diagonal, Blue Vista is surrounded by exceptional schools, recreational facilities and open space, all important to the diverse mix of young families, single professionals and active seniors who call the neighborhood “home.”
“Our ranch-style row home, The Poudre, is under construction right now, as well as our first single-family home,” Youngs says. “These are exciting additions to the choices for home buyers. Many people are looking for a ranch plan in a desirable location. We’ve already sold one home in the four-plex and are getting a lot of interest.”
The Poudre’s main floor design features an open floor plan with great room, home office, spacious master bedroom with four-piece bath, additional powder bath and kitchen that opens to a patio. Ten-foot ceilings and dormer windows provide an abundance of space and natural light. The lower level includes an open recreation space, two additional bedrooms and a three-quarter bath.
Award-Winning Community Design
All homes at Blue Vista are designated “Built Green” and qualify as Energy Star homes. Low-E glazed windows and blown-in cellulose insulation make your home easy to heat and a breeze to cool. Two-by-six framing is standard instead of the two-by-fours you’ll find elsewhere, creating sturdier, deeper walls that hold more insulation and are more soundproof.
The inside environment is protected by low-VOC paints and finishes. Carpets are made of recycled materials, and are tacked down rather than glued, to help protect the quality of the air you breathe. All lighting fixtures use compact fluorescents bulbs and Energy Star appliances, chosen for their superior efficiency.
This dedication to quality construction and design earned Blue Vista and its builder, Boulder Creek Life & Home, nation-wide recognition in 2008 when the National Association of Home Builders recognized the community with a Development of the Year Award for “excellence in green residential design and construction practices, and outstanding green advocacy efforts.”
Summer Youngs says that receiving the award was an important endorsement for the growing Longmont community. “The spirit of the NAHB award has to do with the total impact of what we are doing,” adds David Sinkey, marketing director for Boulder Creek Life & Home. “We utilize proven and practical green building techniques and materials, bringing them into the mainstream to create truly affordable homes. We encourage anyone considering buying a new home to visit any of our communities to see this for yourself.”
